Green Peak Gear uses retired climbing gear which we make into products, or recycle. We work closely with a number of climbing walls that have agreed to have a collection bin where you can leave your retired or unwanted gear. Profits that we make from the reusing and recycling the gear we collect are donated to the BMC Access and Conservation Trust. In other words by giving us your old gear you are helping make sure that crags are open to climb on and that the needs of animals and plants get considered in deciding where and when it is ok to climb.
At present we are able to reuse or recycle ropes, harnesses, helmets, slings, nuts and karabiners. Recycle Outdoor Gear (ROG) provide a service that is complimentary to the one provided by Green Peak Gear. Through the ROG website you can swap, sell, donate or buy many of the items of used outdoor clothing & equipment that Green Peak Gear does not collect.
If you have gear that you want to donate to Green Peak Gear please take it to one of the participating walls:
Awesome Walls - Sheffield Stockport & Liverpool
Energise Gym – York
The Foundry Climbing - Sheffield
The Climbing Hangar (Liverpool)
Preston Leisure Centre climbing wall.
We are grateful to the participating climbing walls for wanting to be part of this initiative.
If you are a climbing wall and are interested in setting up a collection point please email us at info@greenpeakgear.org
The collection box at these walls is a blue wheelie bin with Green Peak Gear labels.
